Good to know
- Québec: renting your property to tourists for 31 days or less requires a CITQ registration number, and principal-residence rules and municipal zoning apply.
- Ontario: many towns (Toronto, Ottawa, Blue Mountains, Muskoka towns) require a short-term rental licence, and a Municipal Accommodation Tax may apply. If you earn more than $30,000 a year from rentals, you may need to charge HST.
- Tell your home insurer you rent to guests. Many standard policies do not cover it.
