Good to know
- If someone lives there as their home for a few months, most provincial tenancy laws still apply, and in Ontario the standard lease form is required. This agreement then works as a schedule of extra terms.
- Check your city's short-term rental rules. Toronto requires registration for stays under 28 days and only in a principal residence. BC limits most short-term rentals to the host's principal residence.
- Do an inspection with photos at move-in and move-out.
Help in your language
Every question comes with help like this. For example, “Which province is the rental home in?”:
English: The rules for notices, deposits and forms are different in each province. Pick the province where the home is, for example Alberta for a basement suite in Calgary.
