Good to know
- Ontario: if the renter shares a kitchen or bathroom with the owner (or the owner's close family) who lives there, the Residential Tenancies Act usually doesn't apply and the Ontario Standard Lease isn't needed.
- If they don't share with you (a separate basement unit, for example), they are a tenant: use the official Ontario Standard Lease instead.
- Give a rent receipt each month if asked.
