What you will fill in
- Who is the letter for?
- Your full name, job and contact
- The person you are writing about
- How do you know them, and for how long?
- The charge or purpose you know about
- Good qualities, with real examples
- Date of this document
Good to know
- Tell the truth. A false letter to a court or to IRCC can be a crime (misleading a court, or misrepresentation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).
- Do not argue the person is innocent or ask for a specific sentence. Describe who they are; the lawyer or the person argues the rest.
- Keep it to one or two pages, sign it, and give it to the person's lawyer or representative, not directly to the judge.
