Good to know
- Ontario: the seller must give the buyer the Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP), bought at ServiceOntario or ontario.ca. Both sign the transfer on the back of the vehicle permit; the buyer registers it at ServiceOntario within 6 days and pays 13% retail sales tax on the price or the car's wholesale value, whichever is higher.
- The seller keeps the licence plates and removes them. The buyer needs their own plates and insurance before driving.
- PPSA lien: register a financing statement in Ontario's Personal Property Security Registration system (through ServiceOntario) using the VIN. Register a discharge when the last payment is made.
