Good to know
- Ontario's Construction Act makes every payer hold back 10% of each payment until the lien period ends (60 days after substantial performance or completion is certified or declared, with no liens).
- Get a WSIB clearance certificate before work starts and before each payment. Without it, you can be made to pay the sub's unpaid WSIB premiums.
- Prompt payment: once you are paid by the owner, pay the sub within 7 days, or give a notice of non-payment and go to adjudication.
