Good to know
- Calling someone an independent contractor does not make them one. If the company controls their hours and they work only for it, the law may treat them as an employee with Employment Standards Act rights. CRA's CPP/EI rulings decide this for payroll.
- A rep who earns more than $30,000 in commissions over four quarters in a row must register for HST and charge it on commissions.
- Give the rep a monthly commission statement so there is no argument later.
