Good to know
- Under PIPEDA you stay responsible for personal information you give a service provider, and you must use a contract to make sure it is protected (Principle 4.1.3).
- If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, the organization must report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, tell the people affected, and keep a record of every breach for 24 months.
- In Quebec, Law 25 requires a written agreement before you give data to a service provider, and a privacy impact assessment before data leaves Quebec.
